My name is Lisa Head and I live in Flitwick in Bedfordshire, I have a great family which keeps me very busy. I have three children, Alex is the eldest, Sam is in the middle, and Evie is my little one. Every day brings a new adventure and even on the most taxing days there is always something to laugh about. I have always been interested in pregnancy and childbirth, and I have considered taking a midwifery course many times. I had not heard about doulas until my friend asked me to support her in her child's birth. I realised this was the profession I had always been looking for. Looking back on my childbirth experiences brings back fond memories, but I wish I had been better informed and supported. My doula training and experience has ensured I have a huge amount of knowledge in the birth process, including all forms of pain relief, both natural and medical. I don't profess to know all the answers. I believe there is no right or wrong way, and it is my job to inform you of all the possibilities and options available, so you can make informed decisions that are best for you. Training I have trained with Nurturing Birth which is a Doula UK accredited course, I am a member of Doula UK and I have undertaken and completed their mentored recognition process to enhance my skills as a birth and postnatal doula. As a Doula I am under no obligation to complete this recognition but I feel the support and guidance from my assessor/mentor has been invaluable, by encouraging me to reflect on my practice and discuss alternative views and ideas. To find out more about this process please visit Doula UK at www.doula.org.uk , or if you are interested in becoming a doula yourself, please go to www.nurturingbirth.co.uk ExperienceI have had the honour of attending many different birth experiences including home births, waterbirths, inductions, epidurals, twins, and I have attended as the sole birth partner, or together with another partner. Postnatally I have supported women in different situations, from new parents to parents with older children, and I have experience with twins. Personally I have experience with a premature baby, and breastfeeding a premature baby. I have also had training through the Breastfeeding Network as a BfN Helper. |
